The Air Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has bombarded Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters at Kolloram on the fringes of the Lake Chad in Borno State.
The operation which took place on Saturday was believed to have happened when the criminals were converged for a meeting.
Coordinator, Defence Media Operations (DMOs), Defence Headquarters, Maj. Gen. John Enenche, said the operation was a military’s effort in sustaining its onslaught against terrorist in the North East till they are cripplingly incapacitated.
This operation, according to Enenche was conducted based on credible intelligence reports which revealed that some of the ISWAP leaders and fighters had gathered for their meeting.
The fighter jets were were scrambled to attack their meeting venue and they further engaged the terrorists, leaving many of the dead.
“Accordingly, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets and surveillance aircraft were scrambled to attack the location. Overhead the target area, the terrorists were seen moving towards the edges of the settlement and were engaged, leading to neutralization of several of them”. He added.
Gen. Enenche also stated that, few of their survivors were taken out in subsequent passes as the jets strafed the area.
He therefore said that the Armed Forces of Nigeria, in furtherance of the objective of restoring peace and security in the North East, would intensify offensive operations against the enemies of the nation.
