The Defence Headquarters has insisted that, the Benue most wanted notorious militia leader, Terwase Agwaza AKA Gana was killed by the troops of Operation Ayem Akpatuma 111 during his encounter with the troops along Gboko.
There are many conspiracy and conflicting reports peddling on the death of Gana.
The Benue state government said Gana met his Waterloo while being conveyed to Makurdi by the religious, traditional and political leaders of Sakera axis for his (Gana’s) amnesty deal after many persuasions to grant yet another amnesty programme on him.
The former Governor of Benue state now Senator representing Benue north senatorial district ,Gabriel Suswam had also condemned Gana’s killing, deacribing it as extra judicial killings, stating that it could poised a potential danger.
But the Defence Headquarters in conformity with the report earlier given by the Commander of Operation Ayem Akpatuma lll in Doma, Nasarawa state, maintained that Gana was killed by the troops during an encounter around Gboko in Benue state while about 40 of his gang members arrested with cache of arms and ammunition.
This was confirmed by the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations,DHQ, Maj. Gen. John Enenche during a routine media briefing onthe updates of military Operations in the various theatres across the country from 3rd -9th September 2020 in Abuja.
During the briefing, journalists sought to know the controversy surrounding Gana’s killing whether or not the military were aware of the purported Amnesty programme as claimed by the state government.
But Gen. Enenche maintained that it would be unethical behaviour for him to speak on issue his superiors had already spoken, adding that he would rather not join issues with any body
This ,he said the Commander of the troops had already made clear statement on the issue as well as the Benue State government and other political leaders from the area.
Gen. Enenche said, “it will be unethical for me to be speaking on an issue already been handled by my superiors, by tradition, I am not expected to speak on it again, we are on the position already highlighted by the Troops Commander, for now, nothing has changed.
“By ethical standards it is not done, I am to subordinate to the constituted authority. So I am no longer in the capacity to answer that as the Co-ordinator of DMO.” he stated.
Speaking on other operations, Enenche noted, the various part of the country have witnessed downward trend of bandits, terrorist and other criminal activities but however assured that, the military will not relent in its both kinetic and non kinetic operations in until normalcy returns to Nigeria.
Gen. Enenche further reassured the Abuja residents, other citizens of the country most especially the adjoining states to FCT to remain calm and worry not as the military in synergy with other security agencies.
According to him, the military have been on red alert to combat any crime as well ensure effective surveillance of the FCT and other states.
The DMO Coordinator therefore assured the general public that preventive and preemptive intelligence operations being conducted by the military in conjunction with the core intelligence agencies were ongoing.
The raid, ambushes, surveillance operations by the Armed Forces of Nigeria in its various theatre operations combined with many other security agencies across the country has led to over 200 suspected criminals arrested across the country, scores of criminal neutralised, millions of barrels and litres of stolen crude oil and AGO, cache of arms and ammunition recovered, amongst several unprecedented successes recorded within the period under review.
