The Afenmai Patriotic Development Association (APDA) in Edo North is celebrating the ‘incredible’ feat recorded by Nigerian music sensation, Burna Boy.
For his “Twice as Tall” hit track, the Edo State-born super star, received an award at the 63rd Grammys event in the United States, recently.
The social-political organization, in a statement issued by Kennedy Izuagbe, its President; and Lucky Anyia, General Secretary; explained that Burna Boy’s infusion of other music elements such as jazz, reggae, rock and country music, set of entertainment skills he got from his grandfather, Benson Idonigie, makes his music more appealing.
APDA believes that Government should encourage the younger generation to sharpen their skills in various areas of endeavours, including and particularly, the music cum entertainment industry.
According to Izuagbe and Anyia, this will help engage the youths productively, grow the nation’s economy and launder the image of the country positively, to the global community.
“Burna Boy, with real name Damini Ogulu, is the grandson of Benson Idonigie. He developed his music skills early in life while living in Lagos with his grandfather.
“Idonigie worked and retired from the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN). He was an iconic Afenmai who is very down-to-earth.
“Idonigie is a music critic. He was, for many years, the manager of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and his music band from late 60s to the 80s. He practically revolutionized Fela’s music and laid the foundation for its wider appeal,” part of the statement reads.
