The Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA) is to hold sport competition in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city in October, 2021.
The President of OSMA, Brigadier General Abdullahi Maikano disclosed this when he led his delegation to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya at Army Headquarters, Abuja.


Brigadier General Maikano, who is also the Vice President International Military Council for Africa (IMCA), said, they were in Army Headquarters to seek for Nigerian Army’s support for the successful hosting of the forthcoming sporting events in the country.
He added that ,they were also in Abuja to assess the level of facilities ready for the competition and as well discuss on the possible means towards having an eventful and a colourful tournament
According to him, the event is key towards bringing together all the armed forces within the Sahel region noting that the competition would not just enhance the economic activities but reduce criminal activities among other negative activities in the country.

He said, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor had graciously given the approval for the hosting of the event and as well pledged his unflinching support for the success of the programme.
Brigadier General Maikano,however, solicited for the support and understanding of the COAS for the success of the tournament.

Responding,the COAS thanked the delegation for the visit and assured that the Nigerian Army athletes will be featured in the competition.
Represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Anthony Omozaje, the COAS noted that the cardinal objective of the of OSMA is to promote friendship and peace among African countries through sports.
He ,therefore, pledged the Army’s unalloyed support to the realisation and success of the competition.
OSMA is a military organisation saddled with the responsibility of organising sporting activities within the Armed Forces in the continent.
Over 15 countries in Africa were represented during the visit.
