In a landmark event marking the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) 60th anniversary and his 11 months in office, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS) Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar unveiled 15 significant infrastructure projects in Abuja on May 20, 2024.
The Director of Public Relations and Information NAF Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet in a statement said, the projects, aimed at enhancing personnel welfare and improving productivity.
According to him, the projects commissioned include a 40-bed hospital, sports complex, microfinance bank, fire bay, and market plaza at NAF Base, Asokoro, Abuja.
Additionally, the CAS inaugurated the NAF Airmen Mini Base in Karu, Officers Quarters in Garki and Karimu, a 6-floor HQ NAF Annex Building at Gudu, and a state-of-the-art Airport Commandant’s office at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. He also conducted the groundbreaking ceremony for the proposed NAF Centre of Excellence Complex, which will house four critical institutes focused on airpower education and innovation.
Air Marshal Abubakar acknowledged the NAF’s housing challenges and emphasized his commitment to addressing them through infrastructural renewal and welfare enhancement.
“These advancements not only bolster the NAF’s operational capabilities but also significantly elevated the welfare of its personnel, ensuring the force is well prepared to confront future challenges ” he stated.
He urged personnel to utilize the new facilities and expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support.
Enugu Reporters learnt that these projects demonstrate the CAS’s transformative agenda, bolstering the NAF’s capabilities and welfare as it celebrates six decades of service.
