The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has responded to allegations made by Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” on April 5, 2024. The Governor claimed that the military was complicit in and profiting from terrorist activities in Katsina State.
According to Major General Edward Buba,Director Defence Media Operations, the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) categorically denies these allegations and emphasizes its subservience to elected government representatives, including the Governor. The Director said, that rather than engaging in a war of words, the AFN invites the Governor to substantiate his claims with evidence through the military high command.
“The AFN is hereby making it unequivocally clear that, it is subservient to all elected government representatives and therefore regards the relationship with utmost respect. In the light of the aforementioned statement of His Excellency the Governor of Katsina State, the AFN elects not to join words with the state Governor, rather would encourage him to approach the military high command to substantiate his allegations.” the statement explained.
He reiterated that the AFN, under the leadership of General Christopher Musa, maintains a zero-tolerance policy for indiscipline and criminality.
He, however, buttresses his statement that it was in this regard that the standing court martials are established by the military to address misconduct and ensure troops’ behaviour aligns with the highest standards.
General Buba explained that the military remains focused on conducting operations and fighting terrorism, undeterred by demoralizing statements.
He urges citizens to support and own the military, reporting any observed misconduct to facilitate appropriate military justice.
Enugu Reporters learnt that the statement serves to reassure the public of the military’s commitment to protecting Nigeria and its citizens.
