As the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) celebrated its 60th anniversary, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fostering strategic partnerships with friends and allies to address common security challenges and promote global peace and security.
The President, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, commended the NAF for its achievements in securing the nation and the sub-region through air power.
President Tinubu, whilst speaking on the theme, “Nigerian Air Force at 60: Leveraging Strategic Partnerships for in Aerospace Innovation for Regional Security,” emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing contemporary security challenges, citing the increasing globalization and interconnectedness of nations.
During the ceremonial parade to commemorate 60th anniversary of NAF, he proudly acknowledged the NAF’s transformation into a formidable, agile, and resilient air force, equipped to tackle both contemporary and future security challenges.
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the modernization efforts of the Armed Forces, including substantial investments in state-of-the-art combat aircraft, attack helicopters, sensors, and equipment. He acknowledged the presence of surviving pioneer NAF personnel and paid tribute to veterans and fallen comrades for their contributions and sacrifices.
“Obviously, sustaining a Service like the Nigerian Air Force that derives its potency from technological assets is a capital-intensive venture. Nevertheless, we have made substantial investments in procuring state-of-the-art multi-role combat aircraft and attack helicopters, as well as sensors and equipment that would significantly enhance its capabilities.
“Some of these include Beechcraft King Air 360 aircraft, Diamond 62 surveillance aircraft, T-129 ATAK helicopters, Agusta 109 trekker multi-role helicopters and M-346 attack aircraft, to boost our combat and airlift capabilities. A few of these platforms have arrived the country, while others will be coming in shortly.
“My administration has since inception employed multipronged approaches to tackle these issues. While our economic policies may have some accompanied with some discomfort for the citizenry, we are confident that in a short while from now, the country would be on a sound economic footing. This would give us more impetus to provide the necessary resources, support, and care for our military personnel as well as their families, in appreciation of their service and sacrifice.” He noted.
President Tinubu commended the Chief of the Air Staff and his team for innovatively leveraging strategic partnerships to host the event, which featured aerial displays and parades showcasing the military’s professional capabilities and combat readiness. He expressed confidence in the NAF’s commitment to discipline and professionalism in utilizing these platforms to address current and future security challenges.
The event highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration in promoting regional security and global peace, as the NAF celebrated six decades of service to the nation.
