The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) have announced a strengthened partnership to enhance humanitarian outreach in the Lake Chad region.
According to the statement released on Tuesday by the Chief Military Public Information Officer N’djamena -Chad Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the collaboration aims to bring peace and stability to the region, which has been affected by terrorism and displacement.
The MNJTF Force Commander, Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, welcomed OCHA’s Head of Office in Chad, Dieudonne Bamouni, to the MNJTF Headquarters on May 28, 2024, and expressed gratitude for OCHA’s diligent coordination of humanitarian support. General Ali pledged the full backing of the MNJTF, stating, “We welcome any effort that will bring peace and stability to Lake Chad.”
In his remarks, Dieudonne Bamouni commended the MNJTF for its efforts, particularly its non-kinetic strategies, which have led to a significant increase in terrorist surrenders. He acknowledged the progress made by the MNJTF in stabilizing the region and outlined OCHA’s ongoing activities in Chad to support affected populations.
Bamouni emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in fostering long-term peace and stability.
Enugu Reporters gathered that as part of the partnership, OCHA will assist in training MNJTF personnel, focusing on understanding the implications of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) during their operations.
This training, reports say aims to enhance the MNJTF’s capacity to enforce ethical standards and protect vulnerable populations in the region.
