In a groundbreaking move, Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Yetunde O. Longe, as the first female Force Secretary, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to gender inclusivity and equality within the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi ya statement said the appointment of the AIG Longe was the resolve of the AIG to fostering an inclusive environment where merit and capability are the primary criteria for advancement, irrespective of gender.
AIG Longe, a seasoned and decorated officer, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role, having served in various capacities since her appointment as a Cadet ASP in 1990. Her impressive career spans key positions, including Administrative Officer, Crime Officer, Commandant, and Deputy Commissioner of Police, among others.
The IGP’s appointment of AIG Longe as Force Secretary underscores his administration’s non-negotiable principle of gender sensitivity in police appointments and operations.
He emphasized that empowering female officers to attain leadership positions is crucial for the comprehensive development and effectiveness of the Police Force.
