Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has increased the bounty on those responsible for the killing of soldiers in May 2024 from N25 million to N30 million, with an additional N5 million donation from an illustrious son of the State resident in the United States. This development comes as the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) establishes a permanent base in Abia State, strengthening security ties between the State Government and the NAF, according to Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF, made available to Newsmen on Friday.
This was revealed when the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, met with Governor Otti at his country home in Mvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, to solidify the partnership.
The CAS noted that the NAF’s presence in Abia State will enhance security in the airspace, provide support in emergency response and disaster management, and contribute to community development initiatives. The CAS emphasized the NAF’s commitment to national security imperatives, particularly in Abia State and the South East Region.
Governor Otti welcomed the establishment of the NAF Base, noting its timeliness given the recent approval of an airstrip construction project by the Federal Government. He offered to allocate a temporary site in Umuahia and provide the necessary support for the Base’s immediate operationalization within two months.
The Governor urged citizens to collaborate with security agencies to maintain peace and rid the State of criminal elements, reports stated.
