The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has reiterated the Division’s dedication to maintaining state-of-the-art medical facilities for the benefit of troops, their families, and the surrounding community. This assurance was given on Friday during a courtesy visit by the Acting Corps Commander Medical (CCM), Brigadier General Samson Okoigi, to the Headquarters, 6 Division, Port Harcourt Barracks.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director 6 Div Army Public Relations said,
Major General Abdussalam emphasized that upholding medical facilities is a critical aspect of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja’s command philosophy, which prioritizes welfare as one of its core pillars. He acknowledged the COAS’s interventions, which have significantly enhanced healthcare delivery in the Nigerian Army, notably the deployment of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and CT Scan machines in NA hospitals.
The GOC expressed optimism that the CCM’s visit would further improve the quality of medical services and facilities within 6 Division’s Area of Responsibility (AOR). He commended the Director, Military Hospital Port, Col Showunmi Solomon, and Commander, 6 Division Medical Services and Hospital (DMSH), Col Felix Odiase, for their exceptional medical services since assuming command.
Brigadier General Samson Okoigi, Acting CCM, stated that his visit aimed to assess the condition of medical facilities firsthand and register his presence with the GOC. He acknowledged the Nigerian Army Medical Corps’ (NAMC) efforts, supported by the COAS, in providing quality healthcare services. He highlighted the recent deployment of MRI and CT scan equipment at 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna, as a testament to the COAS’s unwavering support.
The CCM expressed gratitude to the GOC for his unrelenting support to the NAMC and acknowledged awareness of some challenges facing 6 DMSH, assuring that efforts are underway to address them. He was subsequently conducted on a facility tour of 6 DMSH and 29 Battalion Medical Reception Station and participated in a tree-planting ceremony at the 6 Division biodiversity campaign site.
