The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has directed an immediate and impartial investigation into the recent incident at Command Secondary School Iyana Ipaja, Lagos. This move follows concerns raised by the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) regarding the treatment of civilian workers at the school.
In a statement signed by the Director Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu said, the investigation, led by the Provost Marshal (Army), will thoroughly examine all allegations and ensure accountability and justice for all parties involved.
He emphasised that the Nigerian Army recognizes the vital role of civilian staff in supporting its operations and is committed to fostering a positive and respectful working environment.
“While acknowledging that misunderstandings may occur, the investigation aims to provide clarity and implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The Nigerian Army is committed to upholding the rule of law and respect for the rights of all employees, including freedom of association and collective bargaining.
“The Army is actively engaging with the Ministry of Defence and ASCSN to address outstanding issues and promote a cordial working relationship and industrial harmony. The investigation is ongoing, and the Army urges all parties to refrain from making premature judgments or spreading misinformation.
“Trust in the process is essential, and the Army is confident that the investigation will provide a clear understanding of the situation to facilitate appropriate and fair actions,” he added.
