Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Rt Hon Sherriff Oborevwori, has praised the Nigerian Army (NA) for its outstanding cooperation and professionalism in handling the recent Okuama incident. The Governor’s commendation came during a courtesy visit from the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, NA, at Government House, Asaba, on June 13, 2024.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations,6 Div. Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Danjuma on Thursday.
Governor Oborevwori lauded the NA’s exemplary conduct, which prevented a potential escalation of violence, drawing parallels with past incidents in Odi and Zaki-Biam. He expressed gratitude for the Army’s understanding and cooperation, allowing him to visit the affected area and facilitating the withdrawal of troops to enable displaced persons to return home.
The Governor acknowledged Delta State’s strategic importance to the NA, with the establishment of additional battalions and a brigade headquarters in Asaba. He presented a Certificate of Occupancy for the NA Barracks in Koko and pledged support for infrastructural development.
Major General Jamal Abdussalam, GOC, 6 Division, expressed appreciation for the cordial relationship between the NA and the state government. He reassured that the Division will continue to collaborate with other security agencies to ensure peace and security, in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy.
The event showcased the strong partnership between the Delta State Government and the Nigerian Army, with an exchange of souvenirs, group photographs, and the presentation of the Certificate of Occupancy.
