The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has called on Nigerian Army personnel to offer fervent prayers for the repose of the souls of fallen heroes and the speedy recovery of injured personnel. Speaking at the interdenominational church service marking the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2024, General Lagbaja emphasized the importance of remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the nation.
Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director Army Public Relations in a statement on Sunday said, the COAS also commended the troops for their operational doggedness and commitment, urging them to maintain the highest standards of service and self-discipline.
The Chief of Army Staff reflected on the army’s rich history, noting that despite experiencing wars, conflicts, and military operations, the force has remained strong and adaptable, with a motto that ascribes battle successes to God. He emphasized the importance of thankfulness to God for past victories and seeking divine guidance and blessings for the future.
General Lagbaja also highlighted the army’s commitment to national unity, integration, and development, and its unwavering dedication to aligning with the overall policy dynamics underpinning contemporary security and defence management in the country and beyond.
He urged the army family to remember and honour fallen heroes, celebrate the living, and pray for a brighter future for the Nigerian Army.
He underscores the army’s commitment to transformation and strengthening national security, the rule of law, and economic prosperity.
He expressed appreciation for the support of the President, National Assembly, and other security agencies, and enjoined all Nigerians to partner with the Nigerian Army to defeat the nation’s adversaries.
The event, themed “Transforming the Nigerian Army: Imperative for Combating Contemporary Security Challenges within a Joint Environment”, was attended by top military officials, serving and retired officers, and their families.
