In a historic display of military cooperation, the Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, Monday, paid an official visit to his South African counterpart, General Rudzani Maphwanya, in Pretoria, South Africa.
The CDS received a grand reception, with cannon gun salutes, as a mark of high regard to him.
The Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau in a statement issued on Monday said the meeting aimed to explore areas of mutual benefit and cooperation, with discussions held behind closed doors.
General Maphwanya highlighted the significance of the meeting between the two largest economies and military powers on the continent, while General Musa emphasized the need for cooperation to address Africa’s multifaceted challenges.
The defence chiefs discussed measures to address regional security challenges, exchange expertise, and forge stronger ties between their nations for the betterment of the continent. Senior officials from the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) were also in attendance.
This strategic meeting marked a significant step towards enhanced security cooperation between Nigeria and South Africa, setting the stage for a stronger and more united Africa.
