The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has announced a significant milestone in its Operation Lake Sanity 2, with the surrender of 263 Boko Haram terrorists (BHTs) and their families in Sector 1, Cameroon, between July 10 and 17, 2024.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi Abubakar, Chief Military Public Information Officer, MNJTF, N’djamena – Chad, released the statement on Friday, revealing that the wave of surrenders began on July 11, 2024, when five terrorists surrendered to MNJTF troops in Wulgo, on the Nigeria-Cameroon border. Preliminary investigations indicated that these individuals hailed from Tumbuma and Kutumgulla in Marte Local Government Area, Nigeria.
Subsequent surrenders were reported in various locations, including Madaya, Bonderi, and Wulgo, resulting in a total of 263 individuals surrendering, comprising 120 adult males, 83 women, and 60 children. The surrendered terrorists and their families were handed over to the troops of Operation HADIN KAI for further action.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar, the surrendered individuals belong to Nigerian communities.
Enugu Reporters reports that this mass surrender marks a significant achievement for Operation Lake Sanity 2 and underscores the effectiveness of the MNJTF’s counter-terrorism efforts.
The MNJTF remains committed to combating terrorism and insurgency in the region, and this development is a positive step towards achieving peace and stability.
