In a bid to enhance operational efficiency and achieve future victories, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, on Monday inaugurated a 3-Day retreat for past and present commanders of the Nigerian Army operations in North West Nigeria.
The retreat aims to reappraise the Nigerian Army’s approach to tackling insecurity in the region.
Represented by Chief of Operation (Army) Major General Boniface Robert Sinjen, General Lagbaja emphasized the significance of reviewing past performances to build on operational successes and achieve desired objectives.
The retreat’s theme, “Reappraising the Nigerian Army’s Approach to Tackling Insecurity in the North West,” sets the tone for robust deliberations, analysis of lessons learned, and development of implementable recommendations.
The Army Chief noted that the current security challenges are volatile, complex, and fluid, requiring periodic review and introspection to stimulate new perspectives and creative thinking. The retreat provides a veritable opportunity for reviewing efforts, boosting troops’ morale, and fostering collaborations with sister services, other security agencies, and stakeholders.
With the presence of past and present commanders, the retreat aims to cross-fertilize ideas, articulate lessons learned, and chronicle recommendations into a compendium for future reference. Lieutenant General Lagbaja assured participants that this retreat will be a regular event, ensuring proper appraisal of security situations for operational success.
The Nigerian Army Resource Centre is expected to document the lessons drawn from this retreat, serving as reference material for training and capacity development. As the Nigerian Army continues to tackle insecurity in the North West, this strategic retreat marks a significant step towards achieving operational efficiency and success.
