The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has launched an innovative archery training programme with a strategic move to boost the marksmanship skills of its personnel.
Captain Lurwanu Abdulkadir issued a statement on behalf of the Acting Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau said the event sponsored by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR, aims to enhance confidence and skills in archery, ultimately translating to improved shooting proficiency.
The five-day training, which commenced on July 22, 2024, at the Ach Club Range in Abuja, brings together 22 DHQ officers and men.
Major General SY Bashir, Chief of Defence Communications, emphasized the parallels between archery and shooting safety rules, highlighting the transferable skills in aiming, shot execution, and follow-through.
The comprehensive training programme covers the fundamentals of archery, including equipment setup, range safety, and various aiming techniques.
Enugu Reporters noted that participants were divided into teams, engaging in practical shooting sessions at a 5-meter range.
According to the statement, the programme’s success is evident in the participants’ excellent performance on Day One, demonstrating a thorough grasp of archery basics.
Notable attendees include Rear Admiral SD El-Ladan, Director of Maritime at the Defence Research and Development Bureau, Abuja. By investing in this unique training, the Defence Headquarters reaffirms its commitment to enhancing the capabilities of its personnel, says Enugu Reporters.
