The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has reiterated the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) unwavering dedication to protecting and strengthening the country’s democratic institutions, values, and principles. He made this statement on August 10, 2024, during a meeting with Gombe State Governor, His Excellency Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya.

Director of Public Relations and Information NAF Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet in a statement issued on Saturday, said Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized that the NAF and sister services have a constitutional responsibility to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy, ensuring the freedom and rights of all citizens are upheld and the rule of law is respected.

He acknowledged the burden of security rests with State Governors but assured them of the Armed Forces and other security agencies’ support as willing partners.

The CAS commended Governor Yahaya for his remarkable achievements in infrastructural development, healthcare improvement, and educational standards, which have brought substantial progress and enhanced the quality of life in Gombe State. He also noted the Governor’s investment drive has made Gombe State a top destination for ease of doing business in Nigeria for two consecutive years.

Regarding the recent protest in the State, Air Marshal Abubakar stated that the NAF deployed an aircraft for reconnaissance and joined sister security services in quelling the unrest, which was hijacked by unscrupulous elements.

In his response, Governor Yahaya expressed appreciation for the NAF’s and other security agencies’ commitment to addressing security challenges, ensuring citizens can pursue their livelihoods without significant threats. He commended the NAF 109 Combat Reconnaissance Group for their swift response in quelling recent cases of looting and theft.

The Governor assured the CAS of his Government’s commitment to providing infrastructure support to the 109 CRG to enhance its effectiveness.

This meeting reaffirms the NAF’s dedication to defending Nigeria’s democracy and rule of law, while also highlighting the importance of collaboration between security agencies and State Governments in addressing security challenges.
