Gen Omopariola takes helm of 17 Brigade, vows to build on predecessor’s strides

In a historic ceremony held on August 22, 2024, at the Brigade Headquarters, Natsinta Cantonment, Katsina, Brigadier General Babatunde Omopariola assumed command of 17 Brigade Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West Operation HADARIN DAJI (JTF NW OPHD).

According to Lieutenant Oiza Mercy Ehinlaiye, the Brigade’s Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations said, the handing and taking over ceremony marked the formal transfer of authority from Brigadier General Oluremi Fadairo, who has been reassigned as Commander of 12 Brigade Lokoja.

During his farewell address, Brigadier General Fadairo commended the officers and soldiers of the Brigade for their unwavering support and cooperation, urging them to maintain their commitment and discipline under the new leadership.

Brigadier General Omopariola, in his maiden address, expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, for entrusting him with the new role.
He commended his predecessor’s successful service record and pledged to collaborate with all officers and soldiers to ensure lasting peace and stability within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility.

Before his appointment, Brigadier General Omopariola served as Chief of Staff, Headquarters 6 Division Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt.

The ceremony featured the signing of Handing and Taking Over notes, symbolic Handing Over of the Command Flag, and a Quarter Guard parade.
