The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Obinna Onubogu, Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to Lieutenant General Ipoola Akinrinade (Rtd), a former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), at his hometown in Ile Ife, Osun State.
During the visit, General Onubogu said, hewas privileged to pay homage to a high-ranking retired military officer who once led the NA and the military.
According to the statement by the Acting Deputy Director 2 Div. Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye, the GCO’s visit sought to draw from General Akinrinade’s wealth of knowledge and experience in serving the nation.
General Akinrinade shared stories of his time in active service and noted that serving as COAS and CDS was a lifetime opportunity to contribute to nation-building. He expressed concern about the increasing insecurity in the nation but commended the current leadership of the NA, led by Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, for their efforts to address the situation.
The retired service chief urged Nigerians to provide necessary information to assist the NA and other security agencies in fighting insecurity. He emphasized that security is everyone’s responsibility and applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continuous support of the Armed Forces.
