The Nigerian Army’s 6 Division has successfully disrupted illegal oil bunkering activities in the Niger Delta Region (NDR).
Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director 6 Div said ,recent clearance operations resulted in the seizure of over 280,000 liters of stolen crude oil and the destruction of 63 illegal oil bunkering sites.
Additionally, 11 illegal connections were discovered, and 7 suspected oil thieves were apprehended.
In one operation, troops intercepted a large wooden boat siphoning crude oil from a barge at an NNPC flow station. The estimated 198,000 liters of stolen crude oil were recovered, along with several items, including a barge, tugboat, speedboats, and a wooden boat.
He further said operations in Rivers and Abia States led to the discovery and clamping of illegal connections, as well as the confiscation of illegally refined products, wooden boats, and cooking pots. Troops also destroyed several illegal refining sites, ovens, and reservoirs in various communities.
The General Officer Commanding, 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, commended troops for their efforts and expressed optimism that the region would be free from criminality, enabling oil companies to operate unhindered.
He urged troops to sustain pressure on oil thieves and associated crimes.
