The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has expressed profound sympathy and condolences to the government and people of Borno State over the catastrophic flood that has ravaged numerous communities and crippled economic activities in the State.
On September 10, 2024, General Musa was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of lives, destruction of property, and displacement of thousands of citizens resulting from the flood emanating from Alo Dam, Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau explained in a statement issued on Tuesday.
“On behalf of the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Chief of Defence Staff conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and to the government and people of Borno State at this difficult (during this challenging) time.” General Musa noted.
He, therefore, assured that the Armed Forces of Nigeria will collaborate closely with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant authorities to provide immediate relief and support to the affected communities.
Furthermore, General Musa directed the Theater Commander of Operation Hadin Kai to offer all necessary assistance to the victims. The AFN stands in solidarity with the people of Borno State and will ensure the evacuation of all affected communities to safety, in addition to providing support for ongoing rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
The CDS remains committed to supporting the efforts of both the Federal and Borno state governments to alleviate the suffering of those impacted by this tragic event.
General Musa offered prayers for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He also prayed to Almighty God to ease the pain of the victims.
