In a follow-up operation to the recent recovery of an AK-47 rifle and a vehicle in the Bantaje town of Wukari LGA, troops of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) successfully arrested the owner of the abandoned vehicle, Mallam Abubakar Adamu, and another accomplice, Mallam Isah Ibrahim, on Sunday.
Recall that on 5 September 2024, troops intercepted a suspicious Blue Toyota Yaris vehicle with Registration Number Taraba KLD 652 XA and discovered an AK-47 rifle and other incriminating items hidden in the vehicle compartment.
According to the statement signed by Captain Olubodunde oni, Acting Assistant Director 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes.
Following a thorough investigation and intelligence gathering, troops tracked down and arrested Adamu, who confessed to sending the driver (still at large) to convey the weapon from Doruwa village to Wukari in Wukari LGA of Taraba State.
Adamu was arrested in Mutum Biyu with two mobile phones alongside Ibrahim, an accomplice.
The two suspects are currently in custody, undergoing further interrogation to reveal the extent of their involvement in various criminal enterprises and to apprehend the wanted driver.
Commander 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their dedication and resilience, stating that “these arrests demonstrate our commitment to maintaining peace and security in Taraba State and its environs.”
He thanked the public for providing credible intelligence that led to the operation’s success and urged continued cooperation, emphasizing that “our success depends on the support of the good people of Taraba State.”
