Military launches boat rescue mission for flood victims, recovers stolen oil valued at N1.3 billion – DHQ

In a remarkable display of valour and dedication, the Armed Forces of Nigeria have intensified their counter-terrorism efforts, achieving significant milestones in the past week.

Major General Edward Buba, Director Defence Media Operations in a statement on Friday said as of September 13, 2024, troops remain steadfast in their mission to ensure stability and security across the nation.

He noted that in the North East, troops of Operation HADIN KAI have been working tirelessly to evacuate inmates affected by flooding at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Maiduguri, Borno State.

In a daring rescue mission, over 23 boats were deployed to rescue distressed residents and relocate them to safer environments, showcasing the military’s unwavering commitment to protecting citizens.

“Troops are also ensuring to bring stability in every area of the country where it is needed. To buttress this, troops deployed over 23 boats in (to evacuate) evacuating residents of Maiduguri Municipal Council to move distressed residents affected by flood (to) safer environment,” he stated.

He averred that during the week under review, troops neutralized 165 terrorists, arrested 185, and rescued 106 hostages.

In the South-South region, General Buba noted that troops thwarted oil theft valued at N1.3 billion, dealing a significant blow to terrorist networks in the area.

The military has also recovered a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition, including 145 weapons, 8,926 ammunition, and stolen crude oil valued at N1.3 billion.

He said these recoveries underscore the military’s determination to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace.

Major General Buba, therefore, emphasized the military’s unwavering resolve to operate with tremendous force against terrorists and violent extremists, ensuring the safety and security of citizens.

He reiterated that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remain steadfast in their commitment to protecting the nation and its people
