The Nigerian Army (NA) has launched an investigation into a viral audio-visual recording that appears to show a senior Army officer and two soldiers involved in an altercation with a man and woman in Abuja.
Director Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement on Tuesday, said the Acting Chief of Army Staff (COA), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered the probe to uncover the true circumstances surrounding the incident.
Enugu Reporters noted this move demonstrates the Army’s commitment to upholding the law and protecting Nigerians, as enshrined in the country’s Constitution.
According to the statement, the investigation aims to provide clarity on the unclear circumstances leading to the altercation.
“The circumstances leading to this incident are not clear at the moment. However, the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered an immediate investigation to unravel the true circumstances surrounding this altercation.” the statement explained.
The Nigerian Army reassures the public that due diligence will be applied to reach a logical conclusion on this matter.
