The Nigerian military has achieved a significant milestone in its fight against terrorism and oil theft, with the recovery of stolen crude oil worth a staggering N57 billion.
This impressive feat was announced by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Thursday, highlighting the military’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation.
According to the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, the military has neutralized 8,034 terrorists, arrested 11,623 suspects, and rescued 6,376 hostages since January.
Enugu Reporters noted that these remarkable achievements demonstrate the military’s unrelenting efforts to combat insecurity and protect Nigerian citizens.
The military’s successes extend beyond counter-terrorism operations. Troops have also recovered an impressive array of weapons, including 8,216 arms, 211,459 ammunition, and various other items. These recoveries have significantly weakened the capabilities of terrorist groups, making it increasingly difficult for them to carry out attacks.
In addition to these achievements, General Buba said the military has made significant strides in disrupting oil theft operations.
Troops have recovered 53,101,430 litres of stolen crude oil, 9,179,181 litres of illegally refined AGO, and 90,595 litres of DPK. These efforts have resulted in the denial of oil theft worth an estimated N57 billion.
Major General Buba emphasized that the military will continue to maintain pressure on terrorist groups through ongoing operations across the country.
He noted that troops had been confronted by various threats in five active theatres of operations, namely the North East, North West, North Central, South-South, and South East.
He said the Nigerian Armed Forces have conducted aggressive campaigns targeting insurgents and disrupting criminal networks. These efforts have included clearing terrorist enclaves, dismantling operational bases, and denying criminals safe-havens.
Major General Buba stressed that military operations have rendered terrorist and criminal activities increasingly untenable.
As the year draws to a close, the Armed Forces remain steadfast in consolidating their gains.
Major General Buba encouraged citizens to support security agencies in maintaining the achieved progress, reiterating the Armed Forces’ dedication to defending Nigeria and protecting its people from all forms of security threats.
