…says no truth to the claims

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has come out strongly to refute allegations of a French military base being established in North East Nigeria.
In a statement released on Monday by the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, urged the general public to disregard the rumours, stating that they are “fake, totally false, and mischievous.”
According to the Director, the Armed Forces of Nigeria operates within the bounds of international law and would never compromise the nation’s sovereignty.
He said the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, had previously addressed these rumours in various media fora, debunking them as mere speculation.
Major General Buba emphasized that the military will continue to carry out its constitutional responsibilities with professionalism and ensure the territorial integrity of the nation.
The Federal Government has also clarified that there have been no discussions with foreign countries regarding the establishment of foreign military bases in Nigeria.
In essence, the DHQ has reassured Nigerians that there is no truth to the claims of a foreign military base being established in the country.
He reiterated that the military remains committed to protecting the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
