In a resplendent display of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, the 29 Task Force Brigade, Joint Task Force (JTF), North East (NE) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), recently hosted its annual West African Social Activities (WASA) at its Headquarters in Benisheikh, Kaga Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State.
Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations of the Brigade, Lieutenant Abu Sule said in a statement ,the highly anticipated event brought together troops and guests in a relaxed atmosphere, celebrating the diverse cultural traditions that make Nigeria a unique and vibrant nation.
Speaking, the Executive Chairman of Kaga LGA, Alhaji Mairu Goni Abdullah, who was the Special Guest of Honour, eloquently described WASA as a platform for fostering unity, showcasing Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage, and promoting peaceful coexistence amongst troops and the host community.
He expressed his deep honour at being part of this year’s WASA, highlighting the event’s significance in strengthening bonds among troops, their families, and friends in a social and non-conflict setting.
Earlier, the Commander 29 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General Mohammed Gambo Hammawa, welcomed guests with great enthusiasm, expressing his delight at their presence.
He highlighted the Brigade’s operational successes in 2024, which included clearance operations, securing the Maiduguri – Damaturu main supply route, and protecting farmers during the harvest season, amongst others.
The event was a testament to the Brigade’s commitment to celebrating Nigeria’s rich traditions and diverse cultures while fostering peaceful coexistence and unity.
The festivities featured an array of captivating cultural dance displays, a tour of platoons, a thrilling tug-of-war competition, the beating of the retreat, and the symbolic lighting of the bonfire by the Special Guest of Honour.
To foster camaraderie, the Executive Chairman of Kaga LGA, Alhaji Mairu Goni Abdullah, generously donated the sum of ₦100,000 to the winners of the tug-of-war competition.
The event attracted a diverse range of attendees, including the Commander, Sector 2, JTF NE OPHK, Major General Marcel Ejike, demonstrating the strong bonds of unity and cooperation that exist among the troops and the local community
