In a bold move to combat banditry and restore peace in the North West, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) recently conducted airstrikes at Tungar Kara in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, dealing a significant blow to the bandits terrorizing villages in the area.
Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, Director Public Relations and Information NAF disclosed this in a statement on Sunday explained that the operation resulted in the elimination of several bandits and the recovery of some kidnapped victims.
Air Vice Marshal Akinboyewa,however averred that the NAF has expressed grave concern over reports of civilian losses during the operation, emphasizing its commitment to the safety and well-being of all Nigerians.
“While the operation successfully eliminated several bandits and led to the recovery of some kidnap victims, the NAF views with grave concern reports of the loss of civilian lives in the course of the operation,“ the statement added
He noted that the NAF as a responsible and professional custodian of airpower, it believes in the absolute value of every Nigerian life.
In response to the reports, the NAF has launched a comprehensive investigation to verify the claims, with the outcome to be communicated to the public in due course.
The NAF’s Director Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Akinboyewa, reassured the public that the safety and well-being of all Nigerians remain the top priority, even as the mission to combat banditry and restore peace in the North West continues.
He stated that the NAF is working closely with relevant authorities to uncover the facts and take necessary steps to prevent, minimize, and mitigate harm to civilians and civilian infrastructure during its operations.
