The outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army , Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has urged troops to maintain the tempo of their operations to ensure the attainment of the 2.3 million barrels per day (bpd) oil production target set by the Federal Government.
Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, 6 Division’s Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations relayed this in a statement on Tuesday said , General Abdussalam ave the charge during his poignant farewell address at 63 Brigade in Asaba, Delta State.
The GOC’s clarion call is a testament to the crucial role the troops have played in enhancing oil production in the Niger Delta Region, and the need for sustained efforts to achieve the desired target.
He noted that with the current production rate hovering around 1.9 to almost 2 million bpd, troops should redouble their efforts to meet up with the 2.3 barrel pay day benchmark given by the federal government for economic advancement.
The GOC’s commended the troops for maintaining a stable daily barrel ratio despite the myriad challenges confronting the oil and gas sector and urged them to maintain discipline, professionalism, and operational security in the face of emerging challenges.
He also reminded troops of their significance role in driving economic growth and prosperity through the attainment of the 2.3 million bpd target.
The GOC thanked the personnel of the Brigade for the cooperation and support accorded him during his tour of duty and urged them to give the same level of cooperation to his successor to enable him succeed.
He, however, warned them to always prioritize their personal and operational security, and to avoid getting involved in any illegal activities in the Niger Delta Region.
Earlier, the Commander of the 63 Brigade, Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, expressed his gratitude to the GOC for being a great leader and a father figure to the troops.
He said the GOC’s leadership has been a huge morale boost for everyone under his command, and the Brigade will always be thankful for his guidance and mentorship.
The Commander thanked the GOC and wished him well as he takes on his new appointment.
The farewell visit was marked by some notable events, including the commissioning of the Brigade Commander’s official residence and a new 471-meter road named after Lieutenant General TA Lagbaja and a group photograph.
Enugu Reporters noted that as the Nigerian government continues to grapple with the complexities of oil production, the troops’ unwavering commitment to their duties remains a beacon of hope for the attainment of the 2.3 million bpd target.
