In a significant blow to terrorism, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully eliminated scores of bandits responsible for the devastating attacks that claimed innocent lives in Shiroro, Niger State.
Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa Director Public Relations and Information, NAF, said the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (AC OPFY) launched a three-day sustained air operation, code-named KONAN DAJI, to degrade the terrorists’ capabilities and render the Alawa Forest uninhabitable for them.
He said the operation, which took place on 21 January 2025, was a direct response to the horrific Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks on 19 December 2024 in Bassa, Shiroro LGA, which left several innocent civilians dead.
Following a credible intelligence and confirmatory aerial surveillance, the NAF identified the bandits’ logistics base in Alawa Forest and dispatched fighter aircraft to execute precision strikes.
Air Vice Marshal Akinboyewa explained that the jets swiftly engaged the targets, eliminating numerous armed fighters and destroying their logistics base, as confirmed by multiple secondary explosions.
He assured that the NAF, in close coordination with ground forces, remains committed to maintaining operational dominance across the region.
According to the statement, sustained efforts are underway to eliminate all criminal elements from Alawa Forest and surrounding areas, ensuring lasting peace and security for communities in Niger State and beyond.
Enugu Reporters reports that this achievement is a testament to the NAF’s unwavering dedication to protecting Nigerian citizens and combating terrorism.
Our Correspondent say, with the bandits’ capabilities significantly degraded, the people of Shiroro can finally begin to rebuild and heal from the trauma inflicted upon them.
