Military eliminates 358 terrorists, apprehends 43 in January 2025–Gen Buba

The Nigerian Armed Forces have made significant progress in their ongoing counter-terrorism and insurgency operations across the country.

Major General Edward Buba, Director Defence Media Operations in a statement on Friday said in the month of January 2025, troops successfully neutralized 358 terrorists and arrested 431 suspected terrorists.

General Buba added that, 59 perpetrators of oil theft were apprehended, and 249 kidnapped hostages were rescued with the period under review.

He said the troops also denied oil thieves an estimated sum of over *#2 billion* (N2,699,660,460.00), recovering 2,732,038 litres of stolen crude oil, 42,515 litres of illegally refined AGO, 200 litres of DPK, and 2,250 litres of PMS, amongst other items.

He further noted that, the troops recovered *370 weapons* and *4,972 ammunitions*, including 105 AK47 rifles, 25 locally fabricated guns, 32 dane guns, 23 pump action guns, and various types of ammunition.

According to the statement, these achievements demonstrate the Armed Forces’ commitment to defeating terrorists and their cohorts, and creating a safe and secure environment for citizens.

He reiterated that the troops remain focused on creating conditions in which the safety and security of citizens are assured, and their efforts have yielded significant results in the month of January 2025.
