In a comprehensive and coordinated effort, the Armed Forces of Nigeria have dealt a significant blow to terrorist organizations and oil thieves, eliminating 75 terrorists and foiling an estimated N646 million in oil theft.
The joint operation, which was conducted in various regions across the country, has resulted in the rescue of kidnapped hostages and the recovery of assorted weapons and ammunition.
According to a statement released by the Director Defence Media Operations, Maj Gen Markus Kanye, the operation was a culmination of efforts by the land component of the Armed Forces, ONSA team, security agencies, and hybrid forces.
The statement noted that the operation was aimed at curbing the menace of terrorism and oil theft, which has been a major challenge to the country’s security and economy.
He highlighted the achievements recorded in all theatres of operations across the country, including the North East, North west, North Central,South South, South East regions.
According to him, in the Northeast region, troops of Operation HADIN KAI neutralized 22 terrorists, arrested 13 others, and rescued 34 kidnapped hostages.
The troops also recovered 12 AK47 rifles, 2 G3 rifles, 3 dane guns, 2 fabricated rifles, and other assorted weapons and ammunition. He added that, the troops discovered and destroyed several illegal refining sites, including 164 crude oil cooking ovens, 37 dugout pits, and 19 boats.
In the Northwest region, troops of OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA neutralized 58 terrorists, arrested 11 others, and rescued 16 kidnapped hostages. The troops recovered 31 AK47 rifles, 9 fabricated rifles, 2 GPMGs, one RPG tube, and other assorted weapons and ammunition. Maj Gen Kanye said the operation also led to the recovery of 497,152 litres of stolen crude oil, 142,000 litres of illegally refined AGO, and 4,075 litres of PMS.
He noted that the operation was also successful in the Northcentral region, where troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN eliminated one terrorist, arrested 51 violent extremists, and rescued 11 kidnapped hostages. The troops recovered 3 AK47 rifles, one fabricated rifle, 16 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammo, and other assorted weapons and ammunition.
In the South South region, troops of Operation DELTA SAFE maintained the momentum against pipeline vandals, destroying several illegal refining sites and recovering stolen products.
The statement noted that troops apprehended 23 suspected oil thieves and recovered 2 baofeng radios, 2 magazines, 9 assorted arms, and 162 assorted ammunitions.
The Director Defence Media Operations, commended the gallant men and women of the Armed Forces for their bravery and professionalism. He stated that the Armed Forces will continue to carry out their constitutional responsibilities of protecting lives and properties of all Nigerians.
The operation is a significant milestone in the fight against terrorism and oil theft in the country. The recovery of assorted weapons and ammunition, as well as the rescue of kidnapped hostages, is a testament to the effectiveness of the joint operation, Enugu Reporters noted.
The Armed Forces have reiterated their commitment to protecting the country’s territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
