The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has received high commendation from the United States for its unwavering commitment to combating terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria .
This recognition came on Tuesday during a high-level meeting at NAF Headquarters in Abuja, where a US delegation, led by Acting Principal Deputy Coordinator for Counter-terrorism at the Bureau of Counter-terrorism, US Department of State, Jessica Long, engaged with senior NAF officials.
In a statement signed by the Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF, Group Captain Kabiru Ali Wednesday, said Mrs. Long commended the Nigerian government and its armed forces for their steadfast commitment to combating terrorism, acknowledging the recent successes of the Nigerian military in disrupting terrorist networks.
She praised their adoption of innovative, intelligence-driven tactics that have proven effective in neutralising insurgent threats, securing strategic regions within Nigeria, and contributing to the overall stability of the area.
The US delegation reiterated their continued support for the NAF’s counter-terrorism initiatives, emphasising the critical role of international collaboration in addressing evolving security threats.
They highlighted the importance of advancing purposeful lethality through precision-driven operations, ensuring that NAF’s efforts remain effective and strategically impactful.
The statement further noted that the meeting also explored avenues for intelligence sharing, capacity building, and operational support to enhance NAF’s effectiveness in combating insurgency and terrorism.
Responding, the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, NAF, Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola, expressed appreciation for the US delegation’s visit and reaffirmed the NAF’s unwavering resolve to ensure national security and protect civilians during military operations.
Enugu Reporters noted that the NAF has made significant strides in counter-terrorism efforts, having intensified its operations in recent months, delivering devastating airstrikes against terrorist strongholds across multiple states.
The US recognition and continued support are a testament to the NAF’s commitment to combating terrorism and insurgency, and its efforts to ensure national security and protect civilians.
