The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa Thursday performed a colourful iftar with the Muslim military personnel at the Defence Headquarters Mosque, Abuja.
The move by the CDS was to , showcase his commitment to people-centric leadership style.
In his remarks, the CDS expressed his gratitude and nostalgia, recalling his childhood experiences in Sokoto.
He emphasised the importance of unity and love among Nigerians, regardless of their religious affiliations.
“For me ,it’s a reminder, it’s nostalgia, because these are things of , as we are all aware , I was born in Sokoto.
“I think for me , this is how we are supposed to be living in Nigeria. Anybody looking at us will not know who is a Christian, who is a Muslim.” He explained.

The CDS stated, “God has a purpose for putting us together. It is not to destroy ourselves, but to build ourselves up.”
He encouraged everyone to remember that God Almighty created them and brought them together as Nigerians and enjoined all to foster peaceful coexistence and unity despite the religious and different ethnic affiliations.
Earlier, the Imam of the Defence Headquarters Mosque, Navy Captain Gidado Taofiq Migdad, also during the event, highlighted the significance of Ramadan fasting as a period of moral and spiritual awakening.
Captain Migdad quoted the Quran, saying, “Fasting has been prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may learn self-restraint.”
He lauded the CDS for promoting solidarity , camaraderie and unity among the community.
Enugu Reporters reports that by performing iftar with Muslim military officers, which is the first the first of its kind, the CDS demonstrates empathy, inclusivity, and a willingness to understand and appreciate different cultures and traditions.
This act of people-centric leadership by General Musa promotes unity, solidarity, and a sense of belonging among military personnel from diverse backgrounds. It also showcases the CDS’s ability to connect with his team on a personal level, fostering a positive work culture and environment.
