The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, has praised Nigeria’s military prowess, describing the country as “a regional power-a force to be reckoned with and a pillar of stability in Africa.”
This was contained in a statement relayed to Enugu Reporters by the Director of Public Relations and Information Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame on Friday.
During a high-level visit to the NAF Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, General Mirza commended the Nigerian Armed Forces’ professionalism and resilience, highlighting their crucial role in promoting regional peace and security.
He emphasised the strength, pride and influence of the Nigerian military within and beyond the continent, noting that the Nigerian military has demonstrated its capability and strength even in the peace keeping operations.
The visit, which included a meeting with Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, underscored the strong defence cooperation between Nigeria and Pakistan. Both nations have shared experiences in counter-terrorism, peacekeeping, and strategic capacity-building.
General Mirza showcased Pakistan’s defence manufacturing capabilities, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), trainer and combat aircraft, and anti-aircraft systems, extending an invitation to Air Marshal Abubakar to visit Pakistan for further strategic discussions.
In his remarks, the CAS, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar acknowledged Pakistan’s significant contributions to Nigeria’s air power development, particularly in pilot training, aircraft acquisition, and logistics.
He expressed interest in deepening cooperation in pilot training, research and development, and aircraft technology, emphasising Nigeria’s commitment to self-reliance through innovation and international partnerships.
He highlighted the key areas of focus including the JF-17 Thunder and Super Mushshak aircraft platforms, central to Nigeria’s modernisation goals.
According to the statement, both leaders reaffirmed their shared vision for stronger bilateral defence ties, emphasising the importance of mutual trust, shared values, and sustained dialogue in addressing global challenges and promoting regional stability.
The visit concluded with optimism for a future marked by deeper strategic cooperation, enhanced technological exchange, and collective security development.
