The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa Wednesday, joined members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to break the Christian fast, promoting unity and jointness among personnel.
According to the Director Defence Information Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the initiative was part of his people-centric leadership style, aimed to foster tolerance, comradeship, and teamwork within the AFN.
General Musa emphasised the importance of sustaining this initiative to encourage unity and cooperation among AFN personnel, crucial for achieving common objectives.
He highlighted the spiritual, health, and physical benefits of fasting, including discipline, endurance, and closeness to God, essential for military regimentation.
The CDS expressed gratitude to AFN members for their sacrifice and dedication despite challenging circumstances, urging them to work together for more success stories nationwide.
He acknowledged President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s continued support for the AFN, providing necessary resources and equipment to combat state enemies.
The event mirrored similar gatherings during the Muslim fasting period, where personnel from various services and Defence Headquarters came together to share joyous moments. General Musa charged members of the AFN to forge forward, remain focused, and committed always, despite the notable increase in the tempo of attacks.
“Fasting helps to imbibe discipline, endurance, and closeness to God, which are imperatives to military regimentation,” General Musa said.
Recall that the CDS had organised the iftar gatherings for Muslim personnel during the Ramadan fasting which was observed every Thursday. The initiative which was described as first of its kind in the history of Armed Forces at the Defence Headquarters. The events were well attended by the personnel of both services and the Defence Headquarters.
