The new Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 1, Operation HADIN KAI has resumed Command.
He is Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu who formally took over from the outgoing GOC, Major General Abubakar Haruna.
The official handing and taking over ceremony took place on Tuesday April 29, 2025, at the Division’s Headquarters in Maimalari Military Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno State.

According to the statement, Brigadier General Unachukwu who is the 15th GOC 7 Division/Commander of Sector 1, Operation HADIN KAI took over the leadership
with a commitment to build on existing successes and promote peace and stability in the region.
General Unachukwu is a seasoned senior officer with combat prowess, who held various command, staff, and instructional appointments in the Nigerian Army.
He previously served as Commander of 21 Special Armoured Brigade Bama and Commander of 63 Brigade/Sector 1 South South Operation DELTA SAVE.

During the ceremony, the outgoing GOC, Major General Abubakar Haruna commended General Unachukwu’s vast operational experience and expressed confidence that he would build on existing successes.
In his remarks, General Unachukwu described his appointment as a rare privilege and promised to uphold the confidence bestowed in him by the Chief of Army Staff.
He lauded his predecessor’s leadership and achievements, pledging to consolidate past gains and promote peace and stability in his Area of Responsibility.


The ceremony included the signing of handing and taking over notes, decoration of the new GOC with Division’s insignia, and a farewell address by the outgoing GOC.
