UK lauds AWCN for growing reputation as Centre of excellence

The Defence Adviser to the United Kingdom in Nigeria, Brigadier Thomas Harper, MBE, has commended the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) for its growing reputation as a centre of excellence in operational-level leadership and strategic military training.

Brigadier Harper, gave the commendation during his visit to the AWCN on Wednesday in Abuja.

The UK Defence Adviser expressed his country’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s security efforts through knowledge exchange, training support, and collaboration on defence education initiatives.

“The UK remains committed to supporting Nigeria’s security efforts through knowledge exchange, training support, and collaboration on defence education initiatives,” he stated.

In his remarks, the Commandant AWCN, Major General Umar Mohammed Alkali, appreciated the UK’s longstanding support to the Nigerian military, particularly in counter-terrorism, capacity building, and research development.

He emphasised the importance of partnerships in achieving the College’s vision to consolidate AWCN as a Professional Military Education Centre of Excellence.

The Commandant also highlighted the value of integrating global perspectives into the College’s curriculum to enhance operational effectiveness and cultivate adaptive, and forward-thinking military leadership.

The AWCN remains committed to advancing excellence in military leadership and strengthening partnerships with international allies to bolster Nigeria’s national security through world-class professional military education.
