Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have killed dozens of Boko Haram/ ISWAP terrorists in a well-coordinated operation on their location in New Marte, Borno State.
According to Captain Reuben Kovangiya Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command OPHK “The attack took place in the early hours of May 27, 2025, when insurgents attempted to infiltrate the troops’ location.”
He noted that after a fierce firefight ensued, troops of 24 Task Force Brigade Garrison and 134 Special Forces Battalion swiftly mobilised to the location, engaging the terrorists with heavy gunfire and inflicting deadly blows on them.
“The Air Component of OPHK played a crucial role in the operation, providing immediate Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance, as well as offensive fire support,” Captain Kovangiya added. This led to the decimation of several fleeing terrorists.
During exploitation of the general area, troops recovered a Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) abandoned by the terrorists, as well as several motorcycles destroyed by air strikes.
He said, lifeless bodies of terrorists were also discovered, with traces of blood on their withdrawal routes, suggesting more casualties inflicted on the terrorists.
Regrettably, two soldiers paid the ultimate sacrifice in the operation.
In a related development, terrorists attempting to attack Forward Operating Base Kumshe were repelled by gallant troops, who inflicted significant casualties on the insurgents.
The resilient and determined troops have vowed to keep terrorists on the back foot and deny them freedom of action, demonstrating jointness and renewed team spirit in the fight against terrorism.
According to the statement, the operation is geared towards bringing lasting peace and enabling socio-economic activities to thrive in the North East region, in line with Operation HADIN KAI’s mandate.
