In a significant show of unity and commitment to tackling insurgency, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 Operation HADIN KAI, Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, has on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the Shehu of Borno’s Palace.
According to the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Ajemasu Yake Jingina, during the visit, the GOC sought the royal blessings, community cooperation, and collaboration in the fight against insurgency in the North East.
“We are committed to safeguarding the region and the nation,” Brigadier General Unachukwu stated, expressing his apologies for not visiting earlier due to the exigencies of duty.
He emphasised the importance of seeking the Shehu’s support and prayers for the success of their operational activities, assuring the monarch of the military’s readiness to protect the people of Borno and ensure lasting peace.
In his response, the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-kanemi CFR, welcomed the GOC and commended the military for their efforts in securing the state.
“We sincerely appreciate the unwavering commitment of the military for the peace we enjoy now, and it is our prayers that this menace will finally end,” he said.
The monarch also appreciated the military’s contributions during the Maiduguri flood disaster and assured the GOC of the Borno Emirate Council’s continuous support in the fight against insurgency.
“I wish you and your men unparalleled victory over the insurgents, and you are most sincerely welcome back home as you continue to serve the nation in your current capacity as the GOC,” he noted.
The visit highlights the commitment of both traditional and military institutions working together to ensure the security and stability of Borno State and the nation, fostering socio-economic activities and development.
