The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has urged troops of Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) to uphold the ideals of the Nigerian Army (NA) and defend the nation’s sovereignty with honour.
The COAS made this call during a special Eid-el-Adha celebration lunch with troops on Friday, in Sokoto.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Ibrahim Shittu, 8 Division’s Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, quoted the COAS, saying
“Uphold the ideals of the Nigerian Army and defend the sovereignty of our nation with honour.”
The COAS,who was represented by the Commander, Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command, Major General Adeleke Ayannuga emphasised that the celebration of Eid-el-Adha symbolises sacrifice, devotion, and unity, and reminded the troops that their commitment to duty is a source of inspiration.
General Oluyede further assured the troops that “Their welfare and that of their families remain a top priority.” He reiterated the NA’s resolve to prioritise their welfare, enhance operational capabilities, and support efforts aimed at improving their efficiency in the field.
The COAS commended the troops’ doggedness and charged them to remain vigilant, focused, and redouble their efforts towards removing all encumbrances to peace within their Area of Responsibility.
Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division Nigeria Army and Commander Sector 2 Joint Task Force OPFY, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, highlighted the achievements made by the troops, including securing the once-dreaded Funtua-Gusau-Sokoto Road which make commuters to ply without fear of being attacked.
The GOC noted that “Lives and properties across the four states of Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara continue to be safeguarded,” adding that the locals are going about their daily activities in most communities that were hitherto troubled spots .
The event featured cultural dance and entertainment, and a visit to wounded-in-action troops at the 8 Division Military Service and Hospital.
