The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has emphasised the importance of collaboration between the military, media, and the public in restoring peace and stability in the country.
Speaking at the CDS Expanded Chat with Media Executives to mark his two years of people centric leadership as the CDS in Abuja on Thursday, General Musa highlighted the complex security landscape facing the country and the need for a comprehensive, multidimensional, and multidisciplinary approach.
General Musa commended the role of the media in shaping public perception and maintaining morale between the military and citizens. “In today’s battles, particularly against terrorism and insurgency, we are not only engaged in physical combat but also fighting a war for the hearts and minds of the people.
“The media is a powerful force, and how you report on our operations has a significant impact on public perception and morale, both locally and internationally.” The CDS stated.
The CDS emphasised the importance of non-kinetic strategies in modern asymmetric warfare, noting that they now constitute over 70% of the efforts required. “The media is not just a supporting actor but a central player.
“Nigerians are deeply interested in understanding their security situation and future prospects; hence, the narratives you shape as media professionals will significantly influence public sentiment, national unity, and peacebuilding.” He explained.
General Musa called for continued collaboration between the military, media, and the public to restore total peace and stability to the country.
“Let us work together to build a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Nigeria where every citizen can thrive and enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he said.
The CDS expressed profound appreciation to the President, Comander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
“He has been steadfast in ensuring that his Renewed Hope Agenda brings tangible security and development to all Nigerians,” General Musa said.
