The Defence Media Operations’ Coordinator, Maj. Gen. John Enenche says 2 armed bandits were gunned down by the troops of Operation Whirl Stroke and some items recovered from them including a Toyota corolla car, some weapons ,charms as well as substances believed to be Indian hemp in Benue state.
Gen. Enenche made this known in a statement relayed to Enugu Reporters on Wednesday noted that the troops had the encounter with the criminal elements while on their raid operations on 2 different locations in the state.
He said, the bandits while sighting the troops, opened fire on them but the troops overpowered them with superior fire power, eliminating 2 of the bandits and leaving some at-large.
According to the report, the troops thereafter set the bandits camp ablaze
“Troops while on raid operations at River Yo-Yo and Tachar villages respectively had contact with armed bandits who opened fire as troops closed in on their position.
“Troops responded with superior fire power forcing the armed elements to flee into the surrounding bushes. The gallant troops engaged the bandits in hot pursuit following which 2 were neutralised.
‘In the course of operation, one locally made AK 47 rifle, one magazine, 7 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, one Toyota Corolla car, some substances suspected to be indian hemp as well as charms were recovered.
“Troops subsequently cleared the bandits’ hideout.”
The DMO Co-ordinator further noted that the gallant troops have dominated the area with aggressive patrols to deny bandits freedom of action.
The gallant troops were since commended for their dedication and professionalism and were encouraged to intensify the onslaught against the enemies of Nigeria.
