The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has emphasized the importance of collaboration with reputable institutions to leverage emerging technologies for the Nigerian Army’s (NA) transformation drive. He made this declaration on Tuesday when he declared open the Combat Support Arms Training (COSAT) Week 2024 at the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering in Makurdi, Benue State.
The Director Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu disclosed this in a statement relayed to newsmen on Tuesday.
General Lagbaja highlighted the critical roles of the Combat Support Arms, including the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery, Engineers, Signals, and Intelligence Corps, in providing robust and reliable support to the NA’s operations.
He commended the Combat Support Corps for their contributions to the NA’s operational successes but cautioned that there is always room for improvement due to the dynamic environment and the ever-changing nature of warfare.
The COAS emphasized the need for continuous training, research, and development to stay ahead of emerging threats. He stressed the importance of partnering with governmental and non-governmental institutions to leverage emerging technologies and enhance the NA’s operational efficiency and effectiveness.
In his goodwill message, the Benue State Governor, Reverend Father (Dr) Hyacinth Alia, lauded troops for their sacrifices and described COSAT Week as a step in the right direction to leverage emerging technologies for military operations.
Professor Abiodun Musa Aibinu, the Vice Chancellor of Summit University, Offa, Kwara State, gave the keynote address, urging the NA to incorporate emerging technologies into its operations to tackle national security threats.
The Commander Corps of Engineers, Major General Philip Eromosele, explained that the COSAT aims to enhance operational efficiency and showcase Research Development exhibitions and River Crossing demonstrations.
The event attracted critical stakeholders from the Science and Technology, and Research Development sectors, as well as the Chairman Senate Committee on Army, Alhaji Abdulazeez Musa Yar’ Adua, and the representative of the Minister of Innovation and Technology.
