In a significant blow to oil thieves, the Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) BONNY, on Sunday, June 9, 2024, discovered and deactivated an illegal refining site in the Adamakiri and Elem Krakrama area of Rivers State.
Reports say, the site, which was laden with a sizable amount of crude oil and sludge, had two ovens, five storage tanks, and three reservoirs.
In a related operation, the team also discovered and deactivated a wooden boat containing a significant amount of crude oil pumped into a refining site in the Alakiri general area. The site, which was equipped with an oven and a reservoir, had a substantial quantity of crude oil.
These operations, code-named “Operation DELTA SANITY,” demonstrate the Nigerian Navy’s unwavering commitment to combating crude oil theft and protecting the nation’s natural resources.
Enugu Reporters noted that the Navy’s relentless fight against oil thieves has been unrelenting, with numerous successes recorded in recent times.
The discovery and deactivation of these illegal refining sites are a testament to the Navy’s dedication to safeguarding the nation’s economy and environment. The operation is a clear message to oil thieves that the Nigerian Navy is undeterred in its quest to protect the nation’s resources.
