The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has dealt a significant blow to terrorist groups in the Lake Chad region through a series of daring operations. Under Operation Lake Sanity 2, Task Force Wulgo troops rescued 34 women and children from Boko Haram’s clutches and neutralized one terrorist during clearance operations in Mazuri, Itsari, Mudu, and Maleri villages on June 15, 2024.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi Abubakar, Chief Military Public Information Officer, MNJTF N’djamena – Chad, three ISWAP fighters – Babakura Abubakar, Abacha Kyari, and Mohammad Adam – surrendered to Task Force Wulgo on June 17, 2024, and are currently undergoing interrogation.
He further said , a precision air interdiction mission on June 9, 2024, at Kollaram destroyed three suicide vehicle-borne IEDs, thwarting a potential terrorist attack. This strike showcases the effectiveness of Troops Contributing Countries’ air force units in neutralizing high-value targets and mitigating threats.
The combined efforts of ground and air operations have significantly degraded terrorist factions’ operational strength and morale in the region. The MNJTF remains resolute in its mission to eradicate terrorism, ensure civilian safety, and foster a secure environment conducive to long-term stability, according to the statement.
Force Commander Maj Gen Ibrahim Sallau Ali commended the troops’ bravery and reiterated MNJTF’s commitment to restoring normalcy and peace through continued vigilance and proactive engagements.
