The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has announced an impressive lineup of activities to mark the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2024, starting on June 24 to July 6 2024. The COAS made this known, Monday, during a press briefing at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
General Lagbaja, represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Abdulsalami Ibrahim said the theme of this year’s celebration, “Transforming the Nigerian Army: Imperative for Combating Contemporary Security Challenges within a Joint Environment”, aims to showcase the Army’s achievements, capabilities, and enduring reputation as an instrument of national unity, integration, and development.
The COAS who said this year’s celebration will be held in Jos, Plateau State, rolled out the activities for the celebration to include special prayers, speaking engagements, free medical outreach, commissioning of quick impact projects, a lecture, an award ceremony, a media interactive session, a veterans’ happy hour, a golf tournament, grand finale, and gala night.
Speaking further , the Army Chief noted that NA has consistently demonstrated its prowess and excellence, ranking 39th out of 145 countries in the Global Firepower Index. This impressive feat is a testament to the Army’s unwavering dedication and commitment to national security.
He said the Nigerian Army has achieved numerous successes in defending the nation’s territorial integrity, maintaining peace and security, and participating in international peacekeeping missions within over 161 years its historical existence.
According to him, the Army’s remarkable achievements are a reflection of its bravery, loyalty, and sacrifice, solidifying its position as a formidable force in the global community
He averred that the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is expected to grace the Grand Finale as the Special Guest of Honour.
He expressed appreciation for the long-existing partnership between the Nigerian Army and the press and called for continued support and cooperation. He reassured the nation of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to synergizing with sister Services and other security agencies to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity and national security.
