In a strategic move to ensure the successful hosting of the Africa Military Games (AMGA) 2024, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa OFR, Monday, paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Sports, Senator John Owan Enoh.
In a statement by Captain Lurwanu Abdulkadir, for the Acting Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau,said the visit aimed to foster collaboration and solicit support from the Sports Ministry for the event, scheduled to take place in Abuja from November 5-18, 2024.
General Musa emphasized the significance of the Sports Ministry’s involvement, stating that the event’s success hinges on their support. He congratulated Senator Enoh on his first anniversary in office and formally introduced the forthcoming event, highlighting its benefits for the country, including harnessing Nigeria’s potential, fostering cooperation, and promoting unity among African military personnel.
In his remarks, Senator Enoh welcomed the CDS and his entourage, acknowledging the immense benefits of hosting the AMGA, including infrastructural development and cooperation.
He assured the CDS of the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) and requested the necessary information to ensure a seamless event.
Enugu Reporters reports that the AMGA, first hosted in Kenya 24 years ago, will feature 19 sporting events with over 54 African countries participating. Nigeria’s hosting of the second edition after many years is a significant feat, with several countries already expressing interest in attending.
The CDS was accompanied by Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis, Director of Sports – DHQ, and other senior officers.
